Telugu Desam Party has charged Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K. Chandrasekhar Rao with carrying out a misinformation campaign against the TDP over the Babli issue.
Talking to newspersons at Khammam senior leader and Khammam MLA Tummala Nageswara Rao refuted the allegations made by KCR against the then TDP government on the issue. The foundation stone for the Babli project was laid in August, 2004, and the project works were taken up in January, 2005, during Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s regime.
KCR should recall that he was the Cabinet Minister in the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre and his party’s five MLAs, including his nephew, were ministers in Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s Cabinet when the Babli project works began, he pointed out.
He said the TRS leaders allegations were motivated aimed at deriving political mileage and charged that the unauthorised tapping of the Godavari waters has been going on unabated in the upstream areas in Maharashtra jeopardising the interests of the farmers under the SRSP ayacut in Telangana region.
