Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu on Monday visited the paediatric speciality ward in the Government-SVRR Hospital here which is currently under a cloud with 15 children dying in the last six days for a variety of reasons.
Naidu denounced the ‘gross negligence’ of the Kiran Kumar Reddy government in meeting the basic minimum requirements of one of the oldest government hospitals in the Rayalaseema region. He also went round various wards of the paediatric speciality and interacted with parents of the children and the hospital authorities.
Later talking to media persons, Naidu criticised the State government stating that if this was the state of affairs of a government hospital in the Chief Minister’s native district, the fate of other hospitals in the State could well be imagined.
He lashed out at the government for not correspondingly increasing the SVRR’s bed-strength, budget allocation, medical and paramedical staff, water supply etc though the inflow of patients had increased tremendously over the years.
Naidu gave a call to Tirupati TDP constituency in-charge Chadalawada Krishnamurthy to lead a dharna in front of the hospital from Tuesday to exert pressure on the government to address the problems of the hospital on a war-footing.
He also visited the TTD-run super speciality hospital, SVIMS and asked its Director B. Vengamma to liberally utilise funds of the ‘Prana Danam’ scheme which he had introduced in the hospital when he was the Chief Minister, to effectively meet the requirements of the poor and the marginalised sections.
Later, he called on his uncle Nara Chinna Papaiah Naidu and a party worker who were convalescing in the hospital.
