The Telugu Desam Party Krishna district unit found fault with the State government for not filing counter affidavit in the High Court regarding release of irrigation waters to the delta region.
Addressing a press conference at Vijayawada on Monday, Mylavaram MLA and TDP district president Devineni Umamaheswara Rao said that the State government had promised farmers that it would release 15tmc water to the delta region. Trusting the government’s assurances, the farmers have begun paddy cultivation. Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy had failed to keep his promise made to the delta farmers that their interests would be protected. The government, however, did not release a drop of water.
Above all, the government had not responded to the writ filed opposing the release of waters from Nagarjuna Sagar, in the High Court, which gave three weeks time to the government to file the counter affidavit.
The Congress leaders were in deep slumber when the delta farmers were facing hardship and injustice was meted out to them. They were silent with an eye on berth in Cabinet. The government was requested to take necessary steps immediately to release water to avoid wrath of farmers, he said.
TDP State executive secretary said that TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu would participate in Iftar to be hosted at Seshasai Kalyana Mandapam here on August 14.
