TDP senior leader and former Minister Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy wanted the government to prevent a loss of Rs. 500 crore to the public exchequer by ensuring that the Polavaram project was given to contractors at the best competitive rate.
TDP leader took objection to the decision of considering only two qualified companies Soma and SEW, while many other big companies like Gamon India and L&T were disqualified for the project. He suspected foul play in this decision with Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy and TRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao likely to ‘benefit’ through this deal.
Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, he said the Soma-CGGS increasing its rate from Rs. 4,142 crore in September last year to Rs. 4,599 crore now. Also, SEW-Patel quoted a far higher amount of Rs. 4,655 crore now when compared to Rs. 4,122 crore nine months ago. Both these two companies were now a syndicate, he added.
Chandramohan Reddy said the government should consider the tenders of other big companies also, like Gamon India, L&T, ILFS and so on, which would ensure a fair deal to the people. He criticised the Chief Minister for ignoring public interest in going about the tender process of Polavaram works.
‘Ensure bids are given at best competitive rate and prevent Rs. 500 crore loss to public exchequer’. he urged Government.
