A delegation of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) on Saturday called on Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan and requested him to direct the government to cancel the GOs related to allotment of lands to Vadrevu, Nizampatnam Port and Industrial Corridor (Vanpic) project in Prakasam and Guntur districts.
The TDP leaders team comprising K. Yerran Naidu, K. Balaram and others submitted a memorandum to the Governor and explained him that lands were taken forcibly mostly from small and marginal farmers without paying proper compensation.
The lands allotted to the project, which had failed to take-off, included the forest lands threatening ecological balance in the coastal area, they said.
They requested the Governor to instruct the government to distribute government, forest and un-surveyed lands allotted to the project and also pay compensation to the patta land owners for causing loss to them since 2008 by denying agricultural operations.
Since the project turned to be a major scam now all the lands acquired should be restored to their owners or resumed by the government by withdrawing the GOs concerned, the TDP leaders said.
The TDP delegation urged the Governor to direct the government to withdraw cases foisted against farmers who had fought against forcible alienation of their lands. The Governor assured them that he would look into the matter, they told media persons later.
