Protest against steep power cuts, poor water supply
Telugu Desam Party’s Rajya Sabha member C.M. Ramesh Naidu, Proddatur MLA M. Linga Reddy, MLC S.V. Satish Kumar Reddy and former MLC Putha Narasimha Reddy launched an indefinite hunger in front of Kadapa Collectorate on Monday protesting the steep power cuts, irrigation and drinking water supply problems and seeking reduction of cement price.
The Congress miserably failed to undertake development leading to regression in the State and the Assembly session should be convened forthwith to discuss the problems plaguing various sections of the people, TDP Polit Bureau members Yanamala Ramakrishnudu and Kaluva Srinivasulu and Mr. C.M. Ramesh Naidu said after inaugurating the hunger strike camp.
UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy ruined the State and drove it into a crisis. The TDP leaders accused the Congress governments in the State and Centre of failing to secure adequate gas allocation to the State. Steep power cuts were affecting industrial growth and leading to unemployment.
It failed to enforce the stipulation to sell 18 percent of cement production locally and regulate the cement price, which was higher in Rayalaseema than in Hyderabad, East and West Godavari and neighbouring States. Farmers were bogged down by lack of rainfall, steep power cuts and seed, fertilizer and pesticide shortage due to the government’s lack of foresight, they alleged.
The Congress government was unconcerned at the plight of the poorer sections, farmers, handloom weavers and other sections. The State government was ignoring the plight of farmers in Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra regions, Telugu Desam Party leader Payyavula Keshav alleged.
