Telugu Desam Party official spokesman K.Veeraiah Chowdary on Saturday said the K.L. Rao Sagar (Pulichintala) project would have come to the rescue of farmers in these times of distress.
Mr. Chowdary said in a statement that 36,000 tmc of water could have been stored in the balancing reservoir and 150 Mega Watt of power produced had the project been completed as per schedule.
The dependence on monsoon and Nagarjuna Sagar project could have been reduced to a large extent by completing the project but the opportunity was lost.Wastage of massive quantities of rain water which would irrigate the fertile lands in the area spread between Nagarjuna Sagar dam and Prakasam barrage could have been prevented.
Mr. Chowdary expressed regret that the project has breached several deadlines and four Ministers belonging to the district have apparent disregard for it. The Chief Minister would do well to concentrate on the project and ensure that it is completed at least this year.
