The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leadership is mulling a boquet of measures to check the increasing popularity of the YSR Congress Party on its cadre. Steps to rebuild confidence among its ranks and boost their morale have become necessary for the TDP since its dismal performance in the recent by-elections.
At a meeting with some senior party leaders here at his residence on Sunday Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu discussed the impact of the increasing sway of the YSR Congress. Though the wave of sympathy and support in favour of YSRCP would not last long, it was necessary for the party (TDP) to keep up the morale of its ranks till that time , he said ..
By taking up programmes which would keep it closer to people, TDP president has directed the district units of the party to conduct mandal, constituency and district-level meetings of the party to discuss the field-level position. As decided in the party’s polit bureau meeting held earlier this month, the extended general body meeting would be conducted here on July 9 and 10 to finalise the initiatives to revitalise the party. The district units to stage protests against the new liquor policy in front of collectorates on Monday and Tuesday.
Meanwhile, lack of young blood in the party is also being viewed seriously by the party leadership. The issue came up during the review of Anantapur and Rayadurg constituencies held on Saturday. TDP president has opened up the ranks for the youth leaders to emerge at top in mass movements and also in party organistional roles.
