Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday demanded a judicial probe into accidents that occurred during the last one and a half years at Visakhapatnam Steel Plant.
After visiting the blast site at steel melt shop, he said ten persons died during the last one-and-a-half years and Wednesday's accident had left 11 dead till now. He squarely blamed the management for frequent accidents and alleged that compromise in adoption of fool proof safety mechanism, and thrust on downsizing staff and too much dependence on contractors were leading to accidents.
Mr. Naidu demanded adopting safety manual, implementation of the recommendation of judicial commission into accidents and payment of ex gratia of Rs. 1 crore to each of the families of the dead besides job to one member of the family.
He claimed that when he was Chief Minister, he had stopped attempts for privatisation of the plant. Leader of Opposition in Legislative Council Dadi Veerabhadra Rao, former Ministers Ch. Ayyanna Patrudu, Bandaru Satyanarayana Murthy, and M. Manikumari were present.
Former Union Minister and BJP leader Bandaru Dattatreya has demanded a judicial inquiry into the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant accident which so far claimed 11 lives. The BJP leader, who visited the steel plant site along with the party's national executive member K. Haribabu and others on Thursday morning, also demanded Rs.1 crore compensation to the family of the dead.
