Hyderabad capital of corruption: Kiran Bedi Print E-mail

It is shame that Hyderabad which was one of the happening cities a decade ago has emerged as the hot bed and hub of corruption, scandals, political partes and elected reperesentatives selling therselves for monetaty and political gains.

Former IPS officer and member of Anna Hazare Team Kiran Bedi  has described  that Hyderabad, which has been maintaining historical prominence for centuries, had now become a capital city of ‘corruption’ in the country.

Kiran Bedi arrived here on Wednesday to launch a rally in Secunderabad as part of Anna Team’s nationwide rally for a strong Lok Pal Bill. Addressing media, said AP had become a center for ‘black money’ and ‘corruption’ in recent years. The Anna Team came to know that the political parties, which contested in the by-election held on June 12, distributed Rs 15,000 per family to lure them in favour of their respective party candidates.

She also pointed out that several crores of rupees had been spent by the economic offenders (Gali Janardhana Reddy) to seek bail. “The money used for these purposes was black money”.

To check such offences, Bedi stressed the need for an autonomous investigative organisation and strong legal system to expose corrupt practices and flush out black money. She wondered as to why no action was initiated by the Centre when the State was being plundered for last eight years or so.Kiran Bedi said there was a need for fast track courts to deal with the cases which were pending over years together.

In USA, an Indian was accused of insider trading and the US court had said the case would be settled in six weeks. However, in India, it takes six weeks only for registering an FIR, Bedi said. Seeking support from people to exert pressure on the governments to formulate strong laws and set up autonomous investigative organisations, Bedi said that the Anna Team was fighting for that purpose only. She said that political leaders would be scared if there was a strong Lok Pal system. The Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh had addressed a letter to Anna Hazare stating that the Union Government would prepare a strong Lok Pal Bill, but it had not happened yet. She also displayed the letter, which was addressed by the Prime Minister to Anna Hazare.

Saying that scams taken place in the Congress-led UPA government were being unearthed one after the other, she demanded that the Union government order probe by an autonomous body into the scandals.
