The nine-year Congress rule was steeped in corruption while the Telugu Desam during its long stint with party founder N.T. Rama Rao and later N. Chandrababu Naidu provided a clean administration, party leaders said at the mini Mahanadu that began with Visakhapatnam South constituency amid fanfare on Friday.

Polit Bureau member Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, who hoisted the party flag and garlanded the statue of NTR, said people lost confidence in the Congress because of the scandals involving land allotments and tainted ministers. Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu has blamed the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) for the 2009 poll debacle of TDP

The TRS was given 45 seats to contest as part of the alliance, but it managed to win only 10, Naidu told a meeting to mark the readmission into TDP of a police officer turned politician from Warangal D. Sambaiah who had quit TDP after 2004 and joined the TRS.

TRS leader from Warangal will join TDP today in the presence of party president Chandrababu Naidu.

The former TRS candidate in several elections who trounced the TDP had been invited into the party at Warangal by district leaders and MLAs Revuri Prakash Reddy and Sithakka.

TDP’s mini Mahanadus ahead of the party’s annual Mahanadu in Hyderabad began today in districts.

According to Visakhapatnam TDP (Urban) president Vasupalli Ganesh Kumar,  the mini Mahanadu for Visakhapatnam South will be held at the Ambedkar Kalyanamantapam at Relli Veedhi. Former MP M.V.V.S. Murthy will participate.
